# Three-module test review

Reviewed 2026-10-25. **Digital checks pass. Physical assembly and powered operation have not been performed.**

## Scope

Finish three independently supported 38-symbol modules using the ordered 5 V 28BYJ-48 / ULN2003 sets and 3×1 mm magnets. The user permitted a larger test drum. The future two-by-seven may use different motors and parts; no unchanged mechanical transfer is promised.

## Saved dimensions

| Measurement | Actual saved design |
| --- | --- |
| Three-module printed envelope | 138 × 88 × 99.6 mm |
| Cartridge width × height | 44 × 84 mm |
| Column pitch | 46 mm |
| Hinge radius | 26.05 mm |
| Leaves | 38 per module, 114 total |

The envelope excludes the external bench electronics and power brick. The nominal Note dimensions are future references, not a match claim for this larger test.

## Review evidence

- 482 nominal hardware checks pass: motor can, unbent ears, connector, full shaft, Hall allowance, M3 screw heads/shafts/nuts and rear-nut insertion. Delivered parts remain unmeasured.
- Independent saved-file review: 73 of 73 checks pass, including actual STEP/STL solids, printable topology, restored assembly bounds, 703 resting leaf pairs and a 5-degree rigid drivetrain rotation sweep.
- All 38 physical leaf groups are present per module; the renderer uses the saved part meshes and matching painted glyph contours.
- The purchased 5 V motor/driver kit and 3×1 mm magnets are the design inputs. Actual delivered clone dimensions and electrical behavior remain unmeasured.
- 8 native P2S projects have matching source hashes, saved settings and successful slicer receipts. The active build sequence contains exactly 3 mechanisms and 114 leaves.
- No full 2×7 case or fourteen-module print sequence is released. Its compact mechanics may use different motors and parts.

The [nominal hardware review](../hardware/redesign/evidence/three-hardware-review.json) checks component and fastener envelopes. The [saved-file review](../hardware/redesign/evidence/saved-file-validation.json) hashes the actual STL exports and the geometry manifest. The [CAD manifest](../hardware/redesign/dimensions.json) carries nominal component allowances and assembly steps. The [print validation](../hardware/print-prep/note/validation.json) checks native project contents and slice receipts; [order evidence](../evidence/ordered-parts-review.json) records the two confirmed purchases.

## Printer time

15 h 56 min / 222 g / 9 plate runs for all three. First complete module secured upright on the bench: 5 h 19 min; the three feet print later. Previous 31 h 03 min plan included a larger presentation case and power trays; the new total covers open test modules and feet, so the time reduction also reflects that scope change. Add painting, drying, plate changes, wiring, assembly and reprints.

First print the fit coupon and five sample leaves. Passed samples plus the remaining 33 make one full set. After hand fit and powered motion pass on module 0, print two more mechanisms and 76 leaves. No presentation case, rods or heat-set inserts are required for this prototype.

## Ordered parts and missing inputs

Confirmed: three VKLSVAN 5 V 28BYJ-48/ULN2003 sets and a TRYMAG assortment containing 200 of the required 3×1 mm discs. Amazon notices reviewed October 25 reported magnets delivered October 24 and motors shipped with an October 25 estimate. Received quantities and physical dimensions are unverified.

Not confirmed purchased: controller, one MCP23017, BSS138 translator, three Hall sensors, resistors/capacitors, protected regulated 5 V power, wiring, fasteners and white paint. The [shopping list](SHOPPING.md) gives quantities for three only. No new order was made.

## Physical acceptance still required

All 38 symbols must still be tested on the first real mechanism: free hand rotation, leaf release, Hall gap and polarity, repeated homing, loaded speed, current and temperature. Static clearance and an illustrative animation do not prove gravity/contact mechanics.

Nominal motor body, shaft, ears and connector envelopes are allowances, not measurements of the VKLSVAN clone. Check the delivered hardware and fit coupon before committing the first complete module. The larger drum permits the unbent nominal motor ears; no mechanical or electrical motor modification is specified.

Firmware binaries retain the previously recorded source build; documentation now follows the three-module test. Current native/software tests are recorded in [the test log](../evidence/three-module-tests.log). No hardware was flashed. The animation is illustrative between independently defined resting positions; it is not a physics/contact solver.
