WESTMONT PICKUP · THREE-MODULE TEST

One controller.
All three characters.

Pick up the Westmont electronics today. Use the existing WROOM bench firmware for your three purchased motors. Plan for two more position sensors, exact assembly hardware, and one of the power arrangements below. This page separates confirmed stock from items still needing verification.

Best practical route: Westmont + an overnight top-up.

One suitable Hall sensor is in stock at Westmont. A separate Amazon A3144 pack and the correct screw kit showed arrival tomorrow, October 26, 5–8 AM. This avoids extra store trips and untested sensor mounts.

That window requires $25 in qualifying Amazon items and final checkout confirmation. These two packs total $14.97, below the threshold. Add genuinely needed supplies or check the paid-delivery options; do not assume the window is reserved.

Checked October 25, 2026, 11:27 AM CDT. Micro Center: 80 E Ogden Ave, Westmont, closes 6 PM today. Stock is a snapshot. Nothing ordered or reserved.

Your prepared Westmont cart: $429.36 before tax.

14 product lines / 15 units, all set to pickup. Includes the parts below ($85.39), an AMS 2 Pro ($299.99), the P2S buffer ($30.99), and white PETG+ on a plastic spool ($12.99). You reported having a 5V supply, so no supply was added.

This is a signed-out browser cart, not an order or stock reservation. It will not automatically follow you to a different browser or phone. Exact fasteners and any required power connector/fuse protection remain separate. Confirm both spool dimensions fit the AMS before pickup.

The Westmont checklist

The prepared cart includes the electronics, AMS setup and white PETG for the first prototype. Power connections, two more sensors for all three modules, fasteners and tools are separate below. You already ordered three motors with drivers and the magnet assortment. This route uses a WROOM, so do not also buy an ESP32-C3, MCP23017 or level shifter for this test.

Checks are your shopping notes, saved on this device. They do not reserve stock or establish delivery. Capacitor markings and actual part fit still need inspection.

Use your existing 5V supply

No power supply was added. Check its rating, connector, polarity and protection against the bench wiring. The following are the earlier alternatives only.

The brick is suitable, but a verified matching inlet, two covered fuse holders and two appropriately rated 1A fuses are still missing from the local list. The brick alone is not a complete power kit. Follow the fused bench wiring.

Quoted parts + brick: $100.38 before tax, still incomplete.

Optional lab supply for bench testing

A reusable test tool with current limiting and terminal outputs. It can avoid the barrel-inlet wait during supervised commissioning. Configure and independently verify 5.00V with a maximum 1.00A current limit before connecting the load; use secure, insulated distribution.

Keep the WROOM on USB power, join grounds, and keep external +5V off the controller’s USB/5V rail. Prove one motor before adding more. Save and verify the one-motor-at-a-time setting before turning on motor power. Follow the lab-supply setup. A current-limited supply does not establish that three unmeasured motors will run together.

Quoted parts + lab supply: $195.38 before tax. Optional; not a required upgrade or a proven permanent harness.

How to get all three working

  1. Use one WROOM for the whole test. The existing firmware supports three independent 38-symbol mechanisms using the purchased 28BYJ-48 motors and ULN2003 drivers. Use its specific wiring and firmware; the C3 wiring is different.
  2. Qualify the first complete module. The current white-filament first-module plan is estimated at 5 h 26 min and 77.48g, excluding feet. The existing three-foot plate adds 54 min 50 sec and 11.40g. Allow additional time for AMS setup, assembly and calibration. Qualify this first module before preparing the remaining two. Physical operation has not been demonstrated.
  3. Add the remaining two sensors. 20 listed A3144 sensors — $6.99 ↗. The overnight offer was 5–8 AM October 26. Confirm received pinout, switching at 5V, package fit and magnet polarity before gluing. Each Hall output pulls up to 3.3V with the WROOM; Hall power is 5V.
  4. Assemble all three with the correct screws. Countersunk M3 kit — $7.98 ↗. Contains 20 × M3×30, 40 × M3×8 and 270 nuts. Need only 12 long screws, 6 short screws and 18 nuts. It also showed overnight 5–8 AM, with the same checkout conditions.
  5. Enable three positions after individual tests pass. Keep only one motor active at a time initially. All three characters can still update sequentially. Increase concurrent movement only after checking actual current, voltage and temperature.
One sensor can qualify all three mechanisms, one at a time.

Power off between swaps, keep the firmware at one active module, and connect each mechanism and the one Hall sensor to channel 0 in turn. Record each calibration. This does not make three independently homing modules with only one sensor.

If everything must be local today

There is an experimental sensor route, with extra assembly work.

Leo magnetic reed switch packs are $10.99 each, with 3 packs in stock. Conservatively buy two packs ($21.98) alongside the one bare Hall. The “2-pack” photo may mean one contact plus one magnet, not two contacts.

These need external mounts. Before using them, prove that the installed drum magnet produces one clean close/open event every revolution at the intended speed. The small 3×1mm magnet and the existing debounce have not been validated with these switches. We have not changed the CAD or approved this as a drop-in substitution.

Manual startup alignment is another possible demonstration feature, but it is not implemented. Current firmware requires a real position reference for every active module; removing the missing-sensor fault is not a working substitute.

Before you leave

Check that you have a soldering iron and solder, wire stripper, small screwdriver, multimeter, insulation/heat-shrink and strain relief. No paint is needed for the selected AMS white-filament route. These tools and consumables are not included in the quoted subtotal and their ownership is unconfirmed. The first module needs about 77.48g total black and white material before feet and reprints. Keep a reserve for qualification; the full three-module AMS batch has not been prepared yet.
